Checked out

I totally checked out electronically this weekend (including Friday). I left my phone at home, and my iPad with no battery. It felt great! I fell guilty about not blogging very often, I don't think I even hit double digits in january. Then, I think, how many people are even reading this?(especially after my word vomit about body image)

This weekend was a great weekend to be unplugged. We spent Saturday at the field museum! Awesome! There's not as much for gabe to interact with at the field museum as there is at MSI (museum of science and industry). Nonetheless, I think he had a great time. It was nice that the four of us got to be together for the day. Also, gabe developed a love of dinosaurs....too cute!

*HAVING TROUBLE UPLOADING MUSEUM PHOTOS*
HOPEFULLY SOON

It's amazing how much my baby has turned into a kid. He was looking at the dinosaurs and saying dinosaur and just really into looking at stuff. It's great because he's actually looking and maybe even remembering and understanding. So much has changed in a year, I can't believe that he couldn't do anything at this time last year!

He is curious about things at home too. He helps me feed the cats. He was also really interested in Jorge cleaning the litter box. It's so exciting to see his little mind working.

Also, just because I love this blurry picture....he's sneaky too, grabbing his pacifier when I'm not looking!

Oh yeah! I forgot, he also figured out how to take his shirt off. No, not his pants or diapers. Just his shirt.

What to write...

There have been a bunch of things that I have wanted to write about, I just need to get enough time to write about them.

I think that I will start with body issues because that has been weighting heavily on my mind for quite some time. Yes, I believe that I have talked about this in the past. However, I have been thinking about my body, especially since I go to dance every Wednesday. I get to look at my body in lots of floor to ceiling windows. Ugh!

This is me, two months away from my due date. I'm probably around two hundred pounds. This was one of my favorite shirts to wear. When I look at this picture, all I can see are my chubby arms and super swollen face.

This is me a few weeks later at one of my baby showers. I am all over swollen. My feet, my face, and my belly of course!

I wasn't delusional, I knew that gabe was not going to come out and I was going to be skinny again. I didn't expect it to be this hard though. I'm trying to eat better, I'm trying to exercise. I'm stuck at 156ish. Some days a little more, some days a little less. Dance is challenging enough, I hate feeling so self-conscious about my body.

Here is a current picture. I think I'm doing a little injustice to myself here. I'm glad I don't look like I did in the first picture, but I feel like I look skinnier here than I actually am. Sidney got a good angle!

I'm going to keep plugging along, trying to lose the weight and gain confidence. Thanks for listening. Also, I found a great website that makes me feel a little bit better, like I'm not alone. www.ashapeofamother.com It has all kinds of pictures of mothers, some naked, some not, talking openly about their bodies during and after childbirth. You should check it out if your interested.

Climbing

Gabe has discovered the fun of climbing. He will climb everything and anything. He loves to climb the piano bench and sit down and start playing. Yep, I have a musician also.

We are also packing and he will climb up any boxes. Luckily, he hasn't gotten farther than one box high, otherwise we might have some problems!

He has finally learned to crawl up on the couch. That took him the longest. It's not so great though because he then walks to the end and plays with the light switch. Which would be fine, except that it's the edge of the couch and I'm afraid he's going to fall off the edge!

Horrible sleeper....again

So, my lack of posts is because I usually blog at night, after gabe has gone to sleep. However, that is when he was being a good sleeper. I didn't want to blog about it and jinx it, but gabe was doing awesome for quite awhile. He would drink his milk while we read him stories and then you could lay him in his crib and leave and he'd go to sleep. NOT ANYMORE!

What happened? We tried to keep things on track with the holidays. For the most part he was in bed by 9:30, which was late but not too bad. And now he is back to standing in his crib and crying. One night he wouldn't even let us lay him down. He would flex his back every time we tried. He is taking almost an hour some days to go to sleep. We aren't starting early either. I'm at a loss again. Things were going so well. So if there are a lack of posts, you know why. I'll try to get more up though. Sweet dreams everyone!

I've posted this pic before but it's one of my very favorites! If only he were sleeping now....@10 pm.....

I suck!

Um....where have I been? I have wanted to blog about sleep issues and the snow. Sleep issues have overtaken my life so I haven't been able to write about anything! More about that later...now, snow!

Ok, so I know it was last week, but it was amazing! Gabe was sleeping when it really started snowing. He woke up to a winter wonderland. He was shocked. He said "pretty" which he hasn't said in a long time.

I asked him if he wanted to play in the snow and he nodded. We got ready to go outside. Unfortunately, I didnt pack his snow pants. I was in denial that it was really going to snow, wasnt it just forty? We went outside anyways. We had a great time!

I threw snowballs at him and he laughed and laughed! It was a great mommy moment. I loved that we got to share this first together. Obviously he has no idea about the blizzard that he lived through last year.

I think I now love snow. I never played outside with Molly and conor, but now I'm looking forward to more snow and more fun. I cannot wait to share cups of hot chocolate! Yeah snow! (what's wrong with me?!)

Adventures in food

Oh my gosh! Gabe is becoming quite the little person. He is totally independent when it comes to eating. I am able to ask him if he's hungry and he will answer me. If he's really hungry, he will run to his high chair!

He has always been very sure of what he likes and what he doesn't like. Yesterday, he ate an entire can of beefaroni. Today, he pretty much ate blueberries. He didn't really want to touch anything else that i gave him. He is such a nut, but at least he knows what he likes.

Oh yeah, he also gets food ALL over the place!

I can't believe that a year ago he was still only drinking breast milk! I'm so relieved that that phase is over. I just found out a friend is pregnant and I was telling her about my pumping craziness. I hope I didn't scare her too much. it was an intense period of time for me, but I am glad that I did it. (but I don't want to do it again that's for sure!)

A little break

Because of the holidays, I was able to pretend to be a stay at home mom for a few days. It was kinda nice. Gabe and I would wake up together and lay around the house and play together. I didnt have to worry if I looked like crap or not(most days I did look pretty crappy) it was nice. Something I could get used to.....but then there's the life of a stay at home mom. I would actually have to do stuff, like laundry and dishes and make dinner. I did these things on my break, but I didn't feel pressured to do them like I would if I were home all of the time. I mean, you cant stay home and expect to not do these things. It was nice not having to stay up and straighten the house since I was doing it all day long.

Anyways...back to reality.

It's funny. I didn't really take many pictures during the holidays or when gabe and I were home. I just kinda forgot about my phone which was very very nice.

Somebody really likes computers

And playing with the vacuum is a new thing. It's cute but he doesn't want to give it up!

We visited our friends, the romans the other day. Gabe gave Kyle a dinosaur that spins and sings and terrifies him. I was glad to get it out of the house because it's kinda loud and gabe decided that it wasn't fun. In return we wound up with kyles xylophone. Gabe LOVES it! It's really loud but he gets so into it! He lays down, he squats, he gets his drum sticks and bangs on the keys. He can't get enough.

Now that I'm back to reality, I will try to post more often. Hope everyone enjoyed the past few weeks!
