Co sleeping is actually for me

This has been a constant theme it seems since the beginning of this blog, should gabe sleep with us or not. After the past week, with my mom in the hospital, it hit me...he's supposed to be in bed with us.

A lot of people, my mom included, think this isn't the best idea. However, for us it's working. I still don't like the fact that he cannot out himself to sleep, but maybe we can tackle that now that we know that we will co-sleep.

I cannot tell you how nice it was to come home from12 hours at the hospital, exhausted and worried, and have my little guy throw his arms around me and give me the tightest hug. One night I was planning on staying up and watching tv (like I normally do) but I changed my mind and went and cuddled with my two best guys. It was wonderful! I felt safe, warm and loved...exactly what gabe must feel every night.

Co sleeping is for us. I'm not sure for how long, but I really think I'm going to miss it when he no longer wants to sleep in our bed.

Hiatus

So, I am taking a little blogging hiatus. I'm going to try and post as often as I can, but I have family to take care of. My mom has been in the hospital since Thursday with a blood clot. We also found out that she has non-small cell lung cancer that we can treat/further diagnose after the clot has been taken care of.
It may be a rough road ahead, it may not, I am just thankful that nothing more serious happened. I am also thankful for everyone who has read my blog up until now and hope you guys come back. I am also grateful for everyone's thoughts and prayers. I hope I can count on you if/when I need it.
Thanks

Wordless Wednesday

Thank god that today is wordless Wednesday. I cut gabes bangs this morning and they look horrible! He moved and I lost the good chunk that I had had in my hand so I just kinda snipped. BAD IDEA! Now, I'm so pissed at myself. I am having trouble letting it go, even though I know it's just hair and it will grow back.

We did play with play dough for a bit today and gabe only tried to eat it a few times!

Bubble bath?

I was so disappointed in myself for not blogging over the weekend. Obviously, it's because we are having family time, but I should have set up some "easy" posts. Anyways, here is a post that I consider "easy".

Gabe had his first real bubble bath yesterday. I had put a few bubbles in his bath last year and he flipped out. So badly that I had to swirl the water to get rid of all the bubbles. Yesterday though, he really enjoyed himself. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any clear shot so I added some filters to the photos.

He still wouldn't sit down in the bubbles, but at least he didn't scream his head off hopefully there will be many more bubble baths in his future. I think they make the best kinds of baths. I have also been afraid to try colored water or glow sticks in the bath because he freaks out about weird things. Maybe now I can give it a try? What have you guys tried?

Unseasonably warm

Anyone from the Chicago area realized what a blessing this past weekend was. It was absolutely beautiful out!

I was especially glad for the mild weather because we had a huge yard full of leaves that needed to be raked. Saturday, before the rain, was perfect. Jorge and gabe got outside early to rake. I was busy getting gabes too small clothes together. (I'm so glad I know of other little boys to give his hand-me-downs to). It's somewhat difficult to rake with gabe, he just wants to jump in and throw the leaves. It all got done, but after the wind and rain it's kinda hard to tell we did anything.

My life rocks!

It's Friday! I love doing this, I think I've said this before, but I really love being able to share with my blog followers all the crap (I mean beautiful photos) I put up on instagram. As always, I encourage you to check out, rockin' mama!

Gabe wears his sunglasses at night

Curls! (and a cute little dimple)

Photo a day...favorite thing. Gabes favorite thing is music

A sweet moment. They used to do this all the time when gabe was little

Today at nap time for a take a turn challenge. Funny thing is that I actually took the picture this way and didn't need to turn it.

I also realized that I deleted a lot of photos that I put on instagram this week. I'll try to pay more attention next time I decide to delete stuff.

Behind?

Sometimes I worry that gabe is behind. Up until this point, I've felt like he was ahead of the pack, but not so much anymore. There are moms that I follow on instagram and some blogs, who home school and have already started with their toddlers.

Gabe says "two", but hasn't made the connection to two objects. He also isn't interested in the number one at all. I tried counting with him and I would say one...he would say two and sometimes three. But never one.

He doesn't know any colors, but has a caterpillar that has colored spokes and can match up the color spoke with the same colored peg. He did this immediately, without me ever asking or showing him. He says blue a lot so I ask him what color my car is since its blue.

I'm just not sure of how to get him interested. I've always wanted to have an independent child and now I'm afraid that I have been too hands off and he's falling behind. I tried to play play-dough with him last week, he just kept trying to eat it. Am I feeling too pressured from other moms who don't even know that they are pressuring me?

He did watch me collapse his giraffe last night and for the first time, he was able to do it also. He was concentrating so hard and so proud of himself! He also plays so well by himself (in a good way). He set up this circle of toys last night. He moved a piece so that he was in the circle and then replace it once he was inside. That shows some intelligence right? I hope that I am overreacting and that he is progressing just fine.

Wordless Wednesday

It's that day again! Unfortunately, I haven't really taken a ton of pictures because I have a headache that just won't seem to go away for very long. Also, I was so burnt out on the election drama yesterday. However, gabe took some lovely selfies the other day when I was trying to get a shot of his super cute curls.

Also, Jorge and gabe had this super cute moment last night. This used to happen a lot when gabe was a baby...

Favorite things

I'm really going to try to blog everyday this month. It's national blogging month (I think that's what it's called). I try to do a photo a day on instagram and today's photo was a favorite thing. Well, obviously gabe is a favorite thing of mine, but I chose to use one of gabe's favorite things...playing music.

Favorite thing....I love books and reading. I just finished "thunderstruck" by the guy who wrote "devil in the white city", Erik Larson. It wasn't nearly as good, but I plugged through it. I really love Jodi Picolt and historical fiction. There's nothing quite like a nice cup of tea and a good book!

Favorite thing...speaking of tea, my favorite tea is republic of tea, passion fruit papaya. I could drink it all day long.

Favorite thing...I love dunkin donuts coffee, or my moms coffee. Nothing comes close to either, not even mine.

Favorite thing...the day after elections. I cannot wait for these political ads to be over!

Favorite thing...a day in the lower 70's (as in degrees). It's the perfect weather for jeans and a tee shirt.

Favorite thing...Urban Decay makeup. Their eye shadows come in great colors, with equally great names, and stay put forever!

Favorite thing...Le Source lotion from crab tree and evelyn. I wouldn't normally spend that much money on lotion, but the smell is so good (one of Jorge's favorite things) and it really revives my tattoos.

Favorite thing...my family. I don't know what I would do without any of them.

Halloween

I know, it was last week and everyone has already moved onto Christmas. Evidently, thanksgiving, my favorite holiday is just not really important anymore. But I never shared pictures/thoughts about the actual day so...

No pictures mama! I'm a pirate and too cool for that!

Seriously, it was super hard to get any pictures. He's totally in that phase where pictures are just unacceptable.

I didn't go trick or treating. It's really the night Jorge lives for so he took gabe with our old neighbors, bill and jacob. I guess it went pretty well. Jorge would carry gabe up the stairs, ring the bell and gabe would hold out his little pumpkin. It's better than totally refusing.

I even got into the spirit by doing some zombie/dead girl makeup. I'm not sure what I was going for. I wore grey eyeshadow that day and just added more grey and purple around my eyes. To pale myself out a little more, I put some white and shimmer eyeshadow on the rest of my face. If you can't beat them, join them. Right?

Our budding artist

I guess I can't even call Sidney a budding artist, because she's been drawing and painting and being all around creative for a very long time. I will have to do a flashback post sometime about her two handmade Halloween costumes, Domo and Mrs. Packman. I don't have the photos on my iPad.

Last Sunday, Sidney was given an awesome opportunity. Our old neighbor, who had the gallery opening a few weeks ago, was painting a mural. He really wanted Sidney to help out. I thought they were painting the mural, but they were doing the designing solely with spray paint.

She did an amazing job! The guys were so impressed that she had such a good eye and such skills with s spray can. These are men who have been using spray paint for years, giving a fourteen year old such a compliment!

If anyone is in the Chicago area, you can check it out at the intersection of milwaukee and belle plaine, on belle plaine behind the athletico.
